Learning life's lessons the 'Ouch' way!

There might be 100 things you like about that person. But there will still be a zillion things you wish you could change.

Its not easy, I tell ya. To live with a person all your life.

"Acceptance my dear", the hubby pitches in from the bed side. "Its all about accepting the person the way they are. Like how I did."

How do you deal with this? How well have you learnt to love the person, be it your spouse, you dad, your pest of a brother or that silly roommate, for who they are? Do you celebrate the differences or try to burn them?

PS : Totally swamped with work. And it is going to be like this throughout the rest of the year. Sundays and Wednesdays are a way for me to keep in touch with my blog. I am doing a lousy job, I know, but please bear with me.

I agree about acceptance. Every relationship needs it.

  2. Acceptance is crucial for all relationships and it all starts with accepting yourself as you are. I love your what you're doing even when you're busy! :)

Also, I wrote this on acceptance, would love your feedback on it: http://www.expressinglife.in/2015/07/i-choose-to-be-real-1000speak-for.html

  4. Most of the time love conquers all. And you just get used to their habits. It can be irritating but you learn to look past it. Just my two cents :)

  5. My entire life has been a learning curve and now as a parent it's even more so. Acceptance and unconditional love are the pillars of any good relationship. I've learnt that and helped myself in the process. And as for the blog, don't worry. We're all with you. Always

    1. Learning curve, that is it. We fall, we stumble, we get up and learn how to deal with things that trouble us. Thank you for the support Shailaja!

  7. Wise words there but easier said than done. I think we all take a shot at changing a person before giving up and getting used to them.

    1. Oh yeah!! I myself am guilty of it so many times. It is hard, to accept things the way they are. We always try to change them in favor of us, but not everything can be changed. That's the lesson learnt. There is so much more peace in letting them be.

It was only yesterday that I was aghast at a certain behaviour of my husband's.
    Acceptance! Hmmph. :)

  9. Ah! Acceptance - I think we all do try to change the people in our lives. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I guess the acceptance comes down to knowing that.
Woah! Did I actually type that?

First time here, Sampada. But won't be the last.
    Welcome to the BAR!

  10. Acceptance, the foundation of relationships. It does give us a peace if mind. And Parul's right, you're doing a wonderful job despite your busy schedule. :)

  11. No matter who it is, living with them for a lifetime is gonna be hard. We accept the things we can, I guess, and pray there are no major dealbreakers. Comes down to the tolerance level of the individual, doncha think? :)

  12. I loved the quote. And as far as acceptance goes - over the years, I have tamped down my murderous tendencies, and have gotten better at it. Because either way, it's only my blood pressure that is getting impacted, not the behaviour of the other person. So, might as well - accept, adjust and adapt. :)

P.S. You are not doing a lousy job at all. And it's great that you are still keeping up with the blog. That shows determination and a strong will. More power to you.

  15. Hey, you are not doing a lousy job, Sampada! You are doing good!
Yes, I agree, 'acceptance' is half the battle won. The remaining half, well you need to battle it out with your people to find peace at the end of the day! Hehe! Just kidding! But I loved the quotes. That's how our journey will be a smooth one - by accepting things you cannot change.

  16. Yes, we should not try to change others and refraim from stressing to correct them, it spoils relationship. It is very fundamental thing, else no relationship would work. There are endless oppurtunities we have to have a wonderful time with the person, that is fact!!
